Arrested Development. Only the best Televison show ever. I got it for Christmas today. All three seasons. Nice.

First NFL game
I've never been to a Lions game before, maybe its because we aren't very good at all or tickets are a bit harder to get than the Tigers. Either way I'm going to my first NFL game tomorrow. Steelers and Ravens. Should be fun.

Bye Bye Deer Creek
One of my most favorite places to see an outdoor concert is for sale. Seriously though some of the best DMB shows I've seen have been there. Another development victim. I don't want to make a rest in peace post in a few months. Here is the article from the Indy Star.

Spartans and Chicago State.
An ugly game which I'll give you the link to. But here are a notes I enjoyed the most.
"In a way I'm happy that we won, I'm just very, very, very disappointed in our effort. For a team to get 16 offensive boards against us is an embarrassment to everybody that ever played here."
Drew Played well in the 2nd half. But we all knew he would. And that was without starting forward Cam-Ron Clay for the second half. Jones said Clay ripped off his shirt, screamed profanity, fought with teammates and challenged Jones to a fight in the locker room at halftime.
Police got involved in the hallway outside the locker room, restraining Clay and one of his teammates as they lunged at each other. Clay was escorted away in street clothes by Breslin officials as the second half began.
Jones said Clay is off the team and that "in a different environment, I'd have no problem, I'd fight him."
And the Halftime show was okay.

I made a few updates.
I'm going away from the black and opting for a white color. I also changed the creative commons copywrite at the bottom.
I'm also going to start tagging or putting lables on my posts, this one's going on under 'blogroll'.
If you think what i'm writing about might interest someone else, please pass the blog along.
Questions or comments? Don't like how the blog looks? Drop me a line, see that comments area? Works well.

I don't know really where to go with this right now. I guess I just want to point out some cool things on the Internet.
- Last.fm - Probably most who read this won't ever have a use for this, nor have a collection of music that make it worth wild but last.fm tracks the music you play and counts it for you on artist, song, album basis in the time frame of weekly, monthly etc. I use to count the 650 million times I've listened to DMB. But it's good for suggesting music, plus it one up Pandora by allowing you to communicated with other users. I give it 3536 point, the points don't matter though.
- RSS feeds bring me content without having to log onto any website. I've got a mac so I use Vienna as my reader. Where I get content specific to what I'm interested. It's very good for those who have specific interests or who hate to wade though all the ad's.
- Google mail, better known as gmail. More than 2.7 gigs of space means no need to delete a single message. Gmail's searching feature as well as it's spam filter, integration of instant messaging with other gmail users makes gmail worth 1,453,654 points.

Greg Did DC
I'm not where to take this. I've started to think about buying my own domain and having my own blog. Starting over with some kind of archive of this one. I don't know. I just don't.

This is it.
It's been a very busy and long week. I don't have much to even explain anything. A trip back to the Pentagon, the Supreme Court and the end of an internship that I wasn't really sure what I would be doing. I think I picked things up pretty quickly. I also got the chance to meet with Congressman's Stupak's Press Secretary as well as present my public policy topic, Network Neutrality. It's been a hell of a run. I'll come back soon. But first I've got to get back to school. I'm coming back knowing more than I thought I'd ever know.

MSU coaching search.
You can read about the whole hunt and flight rumors tonight. It's exciting and might all be nonsense but here is my theory:
4 men out of the plane at cap city.
Mason, Hollis, Izzo and a African-American Male (Allen Haller, my guess) Thats the interview crew.
My guess:
Met Pelini to welcome him to the spartan family.
If it's true: Welcome Bo.

Better late than never.
Sorry I wasn't able to update from Detroit, they don't have free wifi. Anyways flew a A319 down to DC. Old paint job on this one as well. First row of coach is almost as good as First Class leg room wise. Back to Virginia.
Heading back.
Back to DC. But it's only for a short time. I'm back in an airport. Lansing's Capitol City airport. I don't have a jetway for this flight. I'm flying on a CRJ, see the picture below. I'll update more from Detroit's World Gateway. The plan i'm flying is in Northwest's old livery both are pictured below.

Welcome Back (well sort of)
I'm back in Michigan, though it may only be a for a few days, my impending return here looms over my head. It's not that I don't love Michigan. But Washington, DC is so me. Maybe it's just the big city life. But New York City isn't for me. DC is clean, fast paced and passionate about what they do. Maybe I'd love Chicago or Boston, maybe I'll have to find out. I hard to know your time is almost over when you feel like you've just started.

This weekend it seemed almost everyone had people in town. I've always found it interesting to see what everyone else friends are like. Wondering if you'd fit into their circle of friends.

International Spy Museum
Today post class about half of us plus a few others went to the International Spy Museum, a private collection of the international spy culture. An MSU alumni, who was a former spy recruiter took us on the journey. There aren't any pictures because cameras weren't allowed, but there is no reason you shouldn't go.

DSCC/DCCC
It's hard to put yourself in middle of things, sometimes without any idea what you are doing. Any media event is always a bit crazy but last night was probably the most exciting and crazy night of my life. From conducting interviews with Congressmen and women to taking in the free food and drink. But what was most incredible throughout the night was together the three of us were able to cover the Democratic win. Pictures and video to come. Plus more content from last night.

It's been a few days since I updated. Been very busy, mostly with class, if you could believe that. On Thursday night we ate Afghan food. It reminded me a lot of Indian. The Spartans keep making me sad too.

Halloween.
There was a point in my life where I thought everyone would grow out of Halloween and we'd all just move on. But apparently when you get to college it's something you must celebrate. In my youth I did it for the candy but now I do it as an excuse to party dressed up as something terribly strange. Meet the 2006 costume, "Pig in a suit"

I had a lot of people asking what I was and a lot was suggested. I heard Texas Chainsaw, Pink Floyd, lobbyist, Republican. Anyways on the right is Travis, he was Harry Carry

Election Time.
With the elections a little more than one week away I just wanted to point out some general mussings of mine.
- Political Advertising has hit a new low. I haven't seen anything from Michigan but the chance to hot races in Maryland and Virginia are making me sick.
- The president is someone you don't want on your side.
- It's too bad we don't get to elect the secretary of defense
- We need more from the middle of America the far of the left and the far of the right have too much power right now. The majority of Americans don't think like either of the two.
- Seeing the dirty side of national politics sucks.

Blog added.
Travis is meeting the world now. You can hit up his blog from mine. It's over there on the right. He's good kid giving the blogging a try.
I bought this book today.
It's the first PostSecret Book. The Next one comes out in a little less than a week but I thought maybe I should start here. I try to get over to PostSecret every Sunday. It gives me a funny feeling inside to look at the postcards and realize, I've got nothing to hide. Anyways, it's a great read. I look forward to checking out the 2nd one as well.

The National
Not the Washington, DC, major league baseball team but the Brooklyn based indie rock band. If anyone knows me, they know I listen to this band and rock out with them. Last night I had to see them for the 2nd time. This time more than 50 people showed and they went on stage later than when they got off stage in Grand Rapids. The performance was top notch. I was impressed in Grand Rapids but this time they just rocked and they rocked hard. Keeping with tradition I stood next to the stage, grabbed some pictures and shot some video.

Sunday Night.
So the Spartans rallied from 35 down to beat Northwestern. That was fun. The weekend produced some exciting times, I had an interview with Matt Nathanson on Friday. He's probably one of the nicest artist I've met. Hopefully I'll have the interview up by tomorrow afternoon. I'm trying to post this while watching the Tigers play on Sunday night. I'm not going to comment on the game right now, though Polanco warming gear is interesting.

Sometimes you have to wing it...
And sometimes it works out just perfect. At Talk Radio News Service we are always doing interviews. One of our interns is out sick today who was originally going to do the interview. But the office this morning was just left with Greg and Greg. See the timeline below.
9:45am - We receive a phone call from the booking company there is an interview. The Intern who booked it isn't here.
9:46am - We ask for the press release from a booking firm. They agree to send it.
9:47am - No email
9:48am - Still no email
9:49am - No dice with the email
At this point we only know who we will interview and the Topic: Beer.
9:50am - Interview starts
10:01am - The interview finishes, It's not hard to think of questions on the fly but it's much easier to do an interview when you know what the topic is more than 4 minutes ahead of time. Greg 3 nailed this one, check this link to listen to the whole story.

Hotel Life and More.
I'm here in the Virginian Suites sitting on an ugly couch staring into my suite for the semester. And it's a hotel room. The walls are bare, the bed is made and everything matches. Not that things shouldn't match or the bed shouldn't be made but I'm living in hotel. We have maids. But this whole rant about living in a hotel is making wonder what this winter is going to bring back in Michigan. I've got two options.
- Dorm Room
- Apartment

Surf's up dude!
A term coined by the DC 'crew'. One who rides the metro without sitting or holding on to anything. Some call it an art form while others simply see it as something stupid to do while riding on the metro, I have some tips for those who want to try it.
- A wide base is important, but too wide is cheating, shoulder width is what I recommend.
- The use of arms to balance (what gives it the surfing look) are discouraged especially when it's crowded.
- What's most important is to courteous to those around you. Everyone's probably going to want to kick you in the shines anyways.

Besides learning and understanding to operate audio equipment without fail, I've learned Adobe Audition. It's not a difficult editing tool, the basics are very easy, if anything it's another piece of software I've got great experience with.

The Blog
Seems I have more fans than I thought with this blog. I never thought anyone else would read it other than my family. I guess I posted a few links around and some people have found it. So rock on for them. If you noticed there is a post missing, mostly for the simple fact I can not spell. Not to think why didn't I check my spelling, that's my fault and quite frankly it make me look silly. Do I still think the Yankees were overrated? Yes. Why didn't they win 100 games? A ton of players were banged up though the season, good enough excuse? Probably. But when it counted most, they didn't play well. I'm not anything but a fan, I never claimed to know anything else. But I think what Tigers have done this season has been amazing so far and I hope with Nate Robertson's win tonight the Tigers will carry on.

The Fed.
Today;s field trip found us, and when I say us I mean Michigan State, Wisconsin and a whole group of North Carolina students at the Federal receive. There isn't really that much to see, economists are really boring but we got to sit in the room where Alan Greenspan made important choices about the American Economy and that in its self is pretty neat.
Tomorrow MSU and Michigan play football, I just hope we play them tough. Oh and yes the Tigers are for real.

The zoo.
I'm going to talk about sports.
Michigan State lost today. To the worst team in the big ten. Illinois. Now I don't normally call for mid-season firings, and I'm not going to. But we need to expect excellence at Michigan State. Beating Michigan once in five years is not what our goal should be. It's not something we can turn around overnight, we're in the second tier of big ten football. The calls for a new coach aren't unwarrantable. John L. is on the hot seat. But wait for a win in the next two weeks, then we'll have a serious problem.

In transit.
I've got a plate of food in front of me, an Amstel right to my left and a glass of water to my right. I'm back in JFK airport. While this week was filled tears, it was also filled with family. The chance to see relatives I saw two weeks ago but also a chance to see some I'd never met before. It's a surreal feeling seeing your grandmother dead but at the same time an opportunity to meet new people.
Sometimes it feels like I've been living in an airport for the last two weeks and some will agree that's probably true. But I feel blessed to have the chance to travel like this and to also see those I love. Before I say anymore, let me remember why I am here.
I'm excited to travel back to DC to see everyone I've missed, to get back to work and to make sure the hill is kept in check.
Take these chances.

jetBlue.
I'm sitting in jetBlue's temporary JFK terminal. A bird just flew by. But the lay-over is worth it. I've never been treated so well on and had such good customer service by anyone let alone an airline. Leaving early, food service, and most important comfort. Okay so the 36 channels of DirectTv sold me along with all of the XM radio. I have my iPod ear buds but if I wanted free ones they were provided. Or for a dollar more I could have bought a pair just as nice. Either way a nice ride so far.

I didn't want to take the blog to this much of a personal level. But I needed to, Rest In Peace Grandma. I love you.
DMB.
John Paul Jones Arena, university of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia.
I've never seen more Dave Matthews Band t-shirts before in my life. Or more people interested in pink warehouse. Or more people obsessing over a bar Dave worked in over 20 years ago. The shows were good. Not great but good. Of course worth the trip.
I wasn't that impress with UVA. Maybe I was expecting more. It's not bad, or ugly. It was just there. Maybe we missed the beauty, but it was pretty average. After MSU's loss this weekend, maybe go Cav's?

Republicans are boring...
Not a shock to most but today was terrible. The house republicans held a press confrence on their new border bill. The topic is interesting, press confrences in general are fun, even the bill is interesting, but the republicans are not. The speak of the house is boring. The Majority Leader is boring. Even the guy with the cool title, the Whip is boring. Now this isn't an anti-republican entry, but maybe some people wouldn't think you are the most souless on earth if you didn't always do the following things:
1. Repeat your position 3 times within the same minute.
2. Answer any questions posed by the press with the same answer.
4. Press confrences where you repeat what you've said for the past week are a waste of time.
That's all there is for today. Tomorrow Dave Matthews Band. Saturday Dave Matthews Band.

- My favorite is, "we're working on it, and you'll know when we have an answer."
- Another good one is, " We're working on a solution, you'll know when we have it.
4. Press confrences where you repeat what you've said for the past week are a waste of time.

Dancing on the Metro.
So it really wasn't on the metro, but it was on the platform. I wish so very dearly it was me. He was male between 25 and 30. With his mountain bike and helmet. Dancing as if he were with his new wife. I think that's the best explanation, I hope he was practicing for his wedding.

Spartans Win (and look good).
I caught a flight up to Pittsburgh this weekend for the Michigan State vs. Pitt game. Delayed to Pittsburgh by about 20 minutes, But I'm still here at Pittsburgh International airport waiting to leave. My flight's been pushed back by 65 minutes. A taxi cab ride back to the suites is more likely at this point. First I want to comment about the game, then about the airport.
Game Time.
The spartans played three amazing quarters of football, for the first time it felt good to be a Spartan fan. We controlled the line and played bread and butter football. We ran the ball like we knew what we were doing and we looked good. College games in professional stadiums, look good on paper but terrible in person. There is absolutely no atmosphere, maybe it's coming from the big ten, where my team, with stadium capacity of 74,000 plus is middle of the road. The Spartan faithful was out in full force I'd say about 5,000 State fans made it to the game. Either way the Green and White played one of their best games I've seen in a long time.
Airport.
A very nice and clean place. Very empty. Free WiFi. But the windows aren't very big and you can't see that much for it being a newer airport. I think at some point I'd love to work for an airport working in the information technology. I think systems of travel and those types of things are very interesting. I'm not really sure what to call it or even if it is a field. Maybe it's something to look into. Pittsburgh in general is a great place, a great city. Hopefully sometime soon I'll get the chance to live there. Picture from the game via the Lansing State Journal.

End of the week.
Thursday is the end of the week, for the MSU delegation so what's that mean? A nice little Sam Adams Octoberfest. Sam's beer is no Busch Light, which can be a good thing, but also a bad thing. Mr. Adams drops his beer around 7.99 a 6 pack. Where that isn't a big deal since it a nice beer. It's not a party beer. It's something to relax with. Enjoy it's oak leaf taste. My visuals have been slacking so enjoy.

Blog it and the Metro.
It's very interesting to know what and what I did and who I saw everyday. But my entries will start to become old fast. In fact they probably already have. So I'm going to start with some general thoughts of DC and Virginia. Maybe Maryland too, if I make it up there. I think it's most appropriate to start with the DC Metro.
The route I take to work is pretty simple, get on either the blue or the orange and head towards capitol south. It takes about 25 to 35 minutes depending on how busy things are. In the morning it's hard miss a train they come almost every minute. For the job I've been on the red and green and yellow lines. And Adams-Morgan is where the bars are, so you know. Unlike New York or Chicago there are no express trains, so every train stops at every stop. But the stations and cars are some of the cleanest things I've ever seen, they make New York and Chicago look like dumps. So far a two weeks into the Metro fun, I've survived. Oh and today's visual! The system map.

I'd love to feature a Metro story every week so someone remind me.

Wait, Okay I'm alive.
September 11th is over, well almost over without any problem. Today I spent the day at the National Press Club. My first event was a news conference about 9/11, those holding the conference won't call themselves conspiracy theorists but I have my doubts. Should we trust everything the government says? No. But I think it's more important to celebrate those lives of those who have died, instead of making it into another media event. My second event was special to me. Both the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the 9/11 commission spoke on the commission it's self and the current state of the ongoing fight on terror. As you probably are aware Thomas Kean and Lee Hamilton held those respective positions and tried to make the commission as bipartisan as possible and it was until the very last question. Where both were asked if ABC's Docu-drama was very factual, Kean the republican said yes. Hamilton the democrat responded no. So who knows where anything stands anymore, I just though it was interested they agreed all the way until that point.
This weekend was fun for all those wondering where pictures are, I don't take my camera to the bar very often, maybe this weekend.

New places.
Today was really my first full day covering events. This morning I attended the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. National Town Hall on Energy. Joe Kennedy was on the panel along with Congresswoman Kilpatrick (D-MI). Bill Richardson was scheduled to appear, however, he is currently in Sudan. Though directed at the African American attendees, several of the topics brought forward weren't race related and proved very interesting. More on those issues in another post.
My second event was at the National Press Club. Now if you've never been there, you'd figure it would be in the National Press Building and it is. The club it's self and the engagement today was on the 13th, thanks for the elevators. Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) gave a speech on the state of terrorism. Biden will run for president in 2008. A Clinton type talker, he can make anything seem interesting. That was my day. I hope you had fun too. Pizza time.

(awesome.)
I'm sure everyone is wondering, where I've been, I will tell you.
Tuesday I started my internship. I can't start to explain how awesome my internship is. Tuesday morning it poured all day. But I came prepared. Greg D. he's the other Greg, and Jennifer are the three new interns. Amelia and Joshua are the veteran interns. Lovisa, she's the internship coordinator is awesome the rest of the crew is awesome and the job is awesome. And today I got the most awesome thing.

A real life press pass.

The Weekend Update.
Saturday night was Heather's birthday, she's one of the kids in the program. Going to the bar in Adams-Morgan is like going to the bar East Lansing, with one exception, they are massive. Packed full of college students looking to party. It's a bit more expensive, that's expected. Everyone had good time.
Today we went to the Smithsonian American History muesum, It closes for two years on the 5th. It was packed, and less than half of it was open.
I forgot to add, we've met several of the Wisconsin kids and they are good people as well, I'm certain we'll have a great time.

Rain. UPDATE.
Ernesto says hi. The rain isn't too bad right now, but the wind is kicking up. The whole group is here hanging out in the fairchild building, in the Michigan State office. We're waiting to head out to the library of congress to pick up reading cards. The whole group gets a long really well, we're looking forward to watching the football game, and enjoying the district this weekend with a 21st birthday. No pictures right now. But a map of where we are in DC.

See the 'D'? Thats where we are.
UPDATE: The Library of Congress didn't happen, it's too rainy and windy out for all that walking.

Hello Virginia (DC)
Arrived at the Virginian Suites just before one. Checked in, got my swipe card and welcome folder. Grabed my life for the next few months and moved it upstairs. I'm on the 3rd floor, full wireless internet and an already cluddered desk. But that's the way I like mine. A few pictures so you can see my life.

Pittsburgh Day 2
It's very humid outside today. I need to buy a new pair of sandals, my current pair are getting ready to bite the dust. So I went out looking for a new pair, two places, no luck, didn't have the size I was looking for. As if 9 is an uncommon size. We strolled down to the Church Brew Works, grabbed a beer. I had the Pipe Organ Pale Ale. I enjoy the darker brews, everything lighter reminds me of Busch Light. After the brew pub (which we'll return to tonight for dinner) we stopped off for gas and drove back to grandma's house here in Point Breeze.
I'm going to be adding pictures from the first bit of the road trip once I get to DC. My memory stick reader is packed away. Pirates won 11-6. The first baseball game I saw all year that took more than two hours and ten minutes.

Busy Week.
This past week has been one of the most busy I've ever been though. Working 12 hours a day hasn't been fun but I've had to. Tomorrow I leave. I haven't told so many people, maybe I have they just forgot. Anyways Welcome Week at MSU was a blast. I haven't packed yet. I will soon.

When you work...
...you have to look professional. It's not that I'm not a professional guy, but I've never really had to dress it. So today, I went shopping picked up a few things. I don't have a complete wardrobe but I am getting there. I won't give you the details of everything I got. There isn't a need for that. A week from tomorrow the adventure will begin.

I'm going to miss you.
Getting out of East Lansing is going to be nice, but I'm going to be leaving a few things behind, of course I'll be able to come back to them when I get back, but I'm going to miss them. First, the project I've been working on all summer Michigan State's Campus Wide Podcasting Initiative, I've basically lived in 1215 Engineering all summer. Back in the fall of 2005, WKAR brought together all of it's student employees, for a round table type sit down to discuss new technology. By chance the previous night I had been fooling around with podcasting and my 3g iPod. So I brought the idea of podcasting with me to the meeting. Following some research done by the WKAR staff, They came back to me in the spring asked if I wanted to join the project, I said yes. During the spring we rolled out a handful of test iPod to three different classes. We had success and learned quite a bit about iTunes, iPods, XML and the different ways to distribute content. At times it's been overwhelming but I can say it's been a great job, and I'll be back to it in December. Though I only come to the WDBM-FM, 'The Impact" once a week it's been probably the best decision in my life to join MSU student radio. The real world experience with Scott's Studios is key. But the chance to be around music like this and experiencing how a real station works, is amazing. Plus I get to hang out with some really awesome people. But at least for a semester, it's time for change.

I got it.
The Interview with Talk Radio News Service went well. I thought at first TRNS would be my last choice because it's a bit more journalism than I thought that I wanted, but when I got the chance to really look it over, it's just what I wanted. 1. A Lot of experience, and a chance to see where I want to go in the field, I do more than enough production already. 2. Outside of sports the political arena is my top choice. 3. When at any time am I going to get another chance like this? Never. Unless something out of the blue comes up within the next four days I'll be working for TRNS.

Interviews.
Or interview. I received an email from Talk Radio News Service, they want to interview me. What is interesting the most about them, is the amount of hands on work one gets working with them. They aren't a huge firm, but a very good way to get my foot in the door. I wouldn't be able to work for a conservative service, but working in something too liberal would skew my views too much. Plus that isn't real journalism anyways. TRNS is very telling of both sides of the issue. I hope to hear back from a few other firms in the next few days, but it's a good feeling to have someone at least come knocking.

Almost August.
I know I'm not suppose to be worring about where I will be interning, but it's crunch time around here and I hope to find out shortly. If I don't hear from NPR this week they won't be hiring me for the fall. I knew NPR was a long shot just because of the volumn of appications they get. Though I really do think for positions I applied for I am very qualified. But that's a part of the game sometimes. I think I've got two in's with other firms, I'd just wish i could hear from them soon.

Things to do Before I Leave.
1. Buy new backpack. I'm not an over the shoulder type guy. My Current Northface, the same back I had to start 8th grade is worn out, it's made it 7 years. So I'm impressed and going to buy another.
2. Buy a sleeve for my laptop. The Macbook needs to stay protected during travel.
3. I need professional looking clothes. Though my internship might not require more than just jeans, I need to look good when we adventure.
4. Figure out when we are leaving. My dad is taking me down, we are stopping over in Pittsburgh, to see family, baseball and it happens to be right between Haslett and Washington.
5. Most important figure out what I am bringing with me. I have no idea.

Let's Start In Michigan
I'm Greg and those who are reading this probably know that. I'm 20, I'll be 21 in a few weeks. That's all you need to know so far.
Last Fall, I needed something new. Michigan State University I love. I can't get by without it. But I've lived in Haslett my whole life, my house in Haslett is about six miles from campus. So I've grown as a Spartan and with East Lansing as my hang out since I could drive. But I wanted a change, I met with my advisor to look for some kind of option where i could earn more than 12 credits but leave East Lansing. I found it in the Washington, DC semester program. From August 30th until December 5th I will be living at the Virginian Suites in Arlington, Virginia. My first experience living without someone cooking most of my meals for me. I feel like i'm getting ahead of myself. But I don't really want to waste your time on the details of what I'll be doing. Because That's not the point of all this. The blog is going to share my experiences living in our nation's capitol, working, taking class and having a good time. Adventures will be taken, places will be seen and I want you to seem them too. And for those who like to read you can read about it too. I'll be posting my general mushing about anything else I want. I'm going to try to podcast as well, that will come later though or when I get bored.
