Halloween.

There was a point in my life where I thought everyone would grow out of Halloween and we'd all just move on. But apparently when you get to college it's something you must celebrate. In my youth I did it for the candy but now I do it as an excuse to party dressed up as something terribly strange. Meet the 2006 costume, "Pig in a suit"

I had a lot of people asking what I was and a lot was suggested. I heard Texas Chainsaw, Pink Floyd, lobbyist, Republican. Anyways on the right is Travis, he was Harry Carry

Election Time.

With the elections a little more than one week away I just wanted to point out some general mussings of mine.
  • Political Advertising has hit a new low. I haven't seen anything from Michigan but the chance to hot races in Maryland and Virginia are making me sick.
  • The president is someone you don't want on your side.
  • It's too bad we don't get to elect the secretary of defense
  • We need more from the middle of America the far of the left and the far of the right have too much power right now. The majority of Americans don't think like either of the two.
  • Seeing the dirty side of national politics sucks.

Blog added.

Travis is meeting the world now. You can hit up his blog from mine. It's over there on the right. He's good kid giving the blogging a try.

I bought this book today.

It's the first PostSecret Book. The Next one comes out in a little less than a week but I thought maybe I should start here. I try to get over to PostSecret every Sunday. It gives me a funny feeling inside to look at the postcards and realize, I've got nothing to hide. Anyways, it's a great read. I look forward to checking out the 2nd one as well.

The National

Not the Washington, DC, major league baseball team but the Brooklyn based indie rock band. If anyone knows me, they know I listen to this band and rock out with them. Last night I had to see them for the 2nd time. This time more than 50 people showed and they went on stage later than when they got off stage in Grand Rapids. The performance was top notch. I was impressed in Grand Rapids but this time they just rocked and they rocked hard. Keeping with tradition I stood next to the stage, grabbed some pictures and shot some video.

Sunday Night.

So the Spartans rallied from 35 down to beat Northwestern. That was fun. The weekend produced some exciting times, I had an interview with Matt Nathanson on Friday. He's probably one of the nicest artist I've met. Hopefully I'll have the interview up by tomorrow afternoon. I'm trying to post this while watching the Tigers play on Sunday night. I'm not going to comment on the game right now, though Polanco warming gear is interesting.

Sometimes you have to wing it...

And sometimes it works out just perfect. At Talk Radio News Service we are always doing interviews. One of our interns is out sick today who was originally going to do the interview. But the office this morning was just left with Greg and Greg. See the timeline below.

9:45am - We receive a phone call from the booking company there is an interview. The Intern who booked it isn't here.
9:46am - We ask for the press release from a booking firm. They agree to send it.
9:47am - No email
9:48am - Still no email
9:49am - No dice with the email

At this point we only know who we will interview and the Topic: Beer.
9:50am - Interview starts
10:01am - The interview finishes, It's not hard to think of questions on the fly but it's much easier to do an interview when you know what the topic is more than 4 minutes ahead of time. Greg 3 nailed this one, check this link to listen to the whole story.

Hotel Life and More.

I'm here in the Virginian Suites sitting on an ugly couch staring into my suite for the semester. And it's a hotel room. The walls are bare, the bed is made and everything matches. Not that things shouldn't match or the bed shouldn't be made but I'm living in hotel. We have maids. But this whole rant about living in a hotel is making wonder what this winter is going to bring back in Michigan. I've got two options.
  • Dorm Room
  • Apartment
Now I've been thinking about this since the summer started. I'm still not sure 100% what I want to do, but the chance to live outside of a dorm is helping pick one over the other. I won't get into the pros and cons of either one but either way I won't have to ask the maid not to tuck my bed every third day.

Check it out.

Over there --->
I've added a link to Nate Robertson's Blog.
Gum time.

Surf's up dude!

A term coined by the DC 'crew'. One who rides the metro without sitting or holding on to anything. Some call it an art form while others simply see it as something stupid to do while riding on the metro, I have some tips for those who want to try it.
  • A wide base is important, but too wide is cheating, shoulder width is what I recommend.
  • The use of arms to balance (what gives it the surfing look) are discouraged especially when it's crowded.
  • What's most important is to courteous to those around you. Everyone's probably going to want to kick you in the shines anyways.
Hopefully I'll have some pictures to better document some of my tips but we'll save those for later.

Skills.

Besides learning and understanding to operate audio equipment without fail, I've learned Adobe Audition. It's not a difficult editing tool, the basics are very easy, if anything it's another piece of software I've got great experience with.

The Blog

Seems I have more fans than I thought with this blog. I never thought anyone else would read it other than my family. I guess I posted a few links around and some people have found it. So rock on for them. If you noticed there is a post missing, mostly for the simple fact I can not spell. Not to think why didn't I check my spelling, that's my fault and quite frankly it make me look silly. Do I still think the Yankees were overrated? Yes. Why didn't they win 100 games? A ton of players were banged up though the season, good enough excuse? Probably. But when it counted most, they didn't play well. I'm not anything but a fan, I never claimed to know anything else. But I think what Tigers have done this season has been amazing so far and I hope with Nate Robertson's win tonight the Tigers will carry on.

The Fed.

Today;s field trip found us, and when I say us I mean Michigan State, Wisconsin and a whole group of North Carolina students at the Federal receive. There isn't really that much to see, economists are really boring but we got to sit in the room where Alan Greenspan made important choices about the American Economy and that in its self is pretty neat.
Tomorrow MSU and Michigan play football, I just hope we play them tough. Oh and yes the Tigers are for real.

Congress is gone.

They are on recess. People in DC are wearing jeans. It's different. I'm going to start focusing a lot more tuning my journalism skills and interviewing who ever I can get my hands on. An interesting website I like to check out daily. www.electoral-vote.com

The zoo.

Today we went to the zoo. The weather was nice. It's huge, really much larger than what I remember. Pictures.

And did you know you can bring your own beer?

I'm going to talk about sports.

Michigan State lost today. To the worst team in the big ten. Illinois. Now I don't normally call for mid-season firings, and I'm not going to. But we need to expect excellence at Michigan State. Beating Michigan once in five years is not what our goal should be. It's not something we can turn around overnight, we're in the second tier of big ten football. The calls for a new coach aren't unwarrantable. John L. is on the hot seat. But wait for a win in the next two weeks, then we'll have a serious problem.
