Hello Virginia (DC)

Arrived at the Virginian Suites just before one. Checked in, got my swipe card and welcome folder. Grabed my life for the next few months and moved it upstairs. I'm on the 3rd floor, full wireless internet and an already cluddered desk. But that's the way I like mine. A few pictures so you can see my life.

Pittsburgh Day 2

It's very humid outside today. I need to buy a new pair of sandals, my current pair are getting ready to bite the dust. So I went out looking for a new pair, two places, no luck, didn't have the size I was looking for. As if 9 is an uncommon size. We strolled down to the Church Brew Works, grabbed a beer. I had the Pipe Organ Pale Ale. I enjoy the darker brews, everything lighter reminds me of Busch Light. After the brew pub (which we'll return to tonight for dinner) we stopped off for gas and drove back to grandma's house here in Point Breeze.

I'm going to be adding pictures from the first bit of the road trip once I get to DC. My memory stick reader is packed away. Pirates won 11-6. The first baseball game I saw all year that took more than two hours and ten minutes.

Welcome to Pittsburgh

I slept most of the way. The Ohio Turnpike was lovely. Tonights event:
  • Chicago Cubs vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
I haven't been to PNC park yet. I hear it's one of the best. We'll see how it compares to Comerica. Pictures are here.

Busy Week.

This past week has been one of the most busy I've ever been though. Working 12 hours a day hasn't been fun but I've had to. Tomorrow I leave. I haven't told so many people, maybe I have they just forgot. Anyways Welcome Week at MSU was a blast. I haven't packed yet. I will soon.

When you work...

...you have to look professional. It's not that I'm not a professional guy, but I've never really had to dress it. So today, I went shopping picked up a few things. I don't have a complete wardrobe but I am getting there. I won't give you the details of everything I got. There isn't a need for that. A week from tomorrow the adventure will begin.

I'm going to miss you.

Getting out of East Lansing is going to be nice, but I'm going to be leaving a few things behind, of course I'll be able to come back to them when I get back, but I'm going to miss them. First, the project I've been working on all summer Michigan State's Campus Wide Podcasting Initiative, I've basically lived in 1215 Engineering all summer. Back in the fall of 2005, WKAR brought together all of it's student employees, for a round table type sit down to discuss new technology. By chance the previous night I had been fooling around with podcasting and my 3g iPod. So I brought the idea of podcasting with me to the meeting. Following some research done by the WKAR staff, They came back to me in the spring asked if I wanted to join the project, I said yes. During the spring we rolled out a handful of test iPod to three different classes. We had success and learned quite a bit about iTunes, iPods, XML and the different ways to distribute content. At times it's been overwhelming but I can say it's been a great job, and I'll be back to it in December. Though I only come to the WDBM-FM, 'The Impact" once a week it's been probably the best decision in my life to join MSU student radio. The real world experience with Scott's Studios is key. But the chance to be around music like this and experiencing how a real station works, is amazing. Plus I get to hang out with some really awesome people. But at least for a semester, it's time for change.

I got it.

The Interview with Talk Radio News Service went well. I thought at first TRNS would be my last choice because it's a bit more journalism than I thought that I wanted, but when I got the chance to really look it over, it's just what I wanted. 1. A Lot of experience, and a chance to see where I want to go in the field, I do more than enough production already. 2. Outside of sports the political arena is my top choice. 3. When at any time am I going to get another chance like this? Never. Unless something out of the blue comes up within the next four days I'll be working for TRNS.

Interviews.

Or interview. I received an email from Talk Radio News Service, they want to interview me. What is interesting the most about them, is the amount of hands on work one gets working with them. They aren't a huge firm, but a very good way to get my foot in the door. I wouldn't be able to work for a conservative service, but working in something too liberal would skew my views too much. Plus that isn't real journalism anyways. TRNS is very telling of both sides of the issue. I hope to hear back from a few other firms in the next few days, but it's a good feeling to have someone at least come knocking.
